Many graduate and undergraduate students have already signed up for the 2023 edition of the annual Duke FinTech Trading Competition. The Duke competition has a unique scoring methodology – based on the Sharpe ratio calculation– intended to reward skills and not luck.

Among the applicants of this year’s edition represent universities such as Boston University, Cornell University, Princeton University, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Penn State, Brown University, Georgia Tech, University of California Santa Barbara and others. Interested students can sign up until October 4 at midnight ET. The competition will start on Wednesday, October 11 and will end on December 15 at midnight. “We decided to extend the registration deadline to October 4 in order to allow students from the West Coast universities, who start the academic year next week, to learn about the opportunity and participate,” explained Jacob Vestal, the engineering professor leading the competition. told us.

In addition to practicing quantitative thinking skills and strategic problem-solving experience applicable in many careers in the growing FinTech industry, the winners will gain public exposure and the opportunity to meet with representatives from the industry. “Two important companies, Shonfeld Strategic Advisors, and Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) agreed to sponsor the 2023 competition. DTCC have also agreed to interview selected candidates,” said Jacob Vestal, who is leading the competition on behalf of Duke Fintech.

Winners will be awarded monetary prizes, as listed on the competition’s website.  The competition will be moderated by Jacob Vestal and Duke Econ alumna Zoe Kim. They will interact with participants in a live podcast published on the competition’s companion YouTube Channel.

To sign-up, visit the competition’s Sign-Up page and follow the instructions. Last year, 400 students from all over the world participated.
