Complete a minimum of 30 credits (typically 10 or more courses) in a cybersecurity master’s degree curriculum that’s updated regularly to reflect new tools, threats and industry needs. You’ll combine business-focused preparation, deep technical work and hands-on experience to graduate ready for leadership roles.
Every student in this cybersecurity masters program completes:
Two (2) industry preparation core courses
Three (3) technical core courses
Five (5) cybersecurity elective courses
One (1) required internship or client project
You can also choose from three (3) elective tracks: AI & Security, Technology or Technology Management, allowing you to tailor your cybersecurity master’s degree toward more technical roles or toward leadership and strategy.
Online students stay closely connected to the Duke community through one required on-campus residency, as well as optional in-person academic and networking opportunities. The residency lets you attend in-person classes, connect with engineering master’s students across programs, and take part in Duke-curated professional enrichment opportunities such as guest speakers, seminars and workshops.
A required internship is one of the most powerful parts of the program. It’s your chance to see how cybersecurity operations really work in an organization and to build a portfolio project you can share with employers.
While you’re responsible for securing your own internship, Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering provides intensive support through the Graduate Student Programs and Services team, the GSPS Career Hub, and the Graduate Career & Communication team, which all help you with search strategy, communication skills and cultural competency. Past students have held internships at companies like PayPal, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks.
If you’re already working in the field, you can often meet the internship requirement through a client-oriented project for your current employer.
