FinTech Accelerated and Online Programs: Meeting Working Adults’ Needs

Working adults make lots of decisions throughout their career, including whether to pursue advanced education. Having to leave work to accrue tuition for two years is a hard ask of working adults. Recognizing this ask, Duke Master of Engineering in Financial Technology developed an online track and the newly introduced accelerated track.

Both programs have the same access to courses, professors, Duke alumni, and other resources that students in the two-year track have. They gain the same skills as their peers in the two-year track, just at a different pace.

“The Duke FinTech program has opened new doors for me, connecting me with students and alumni who offer invaluable insights into the future of finance. This network has expanded my skills and sparked new career aspirations, helping me understand how FinTech can drive innovation in traditional finance.”
– Brendan Ganser, Online student in Master of Engineering in Financial Technology program

The online track allows working professionals to take courses part-time, allowing them to make work their main priority. These students also get to experience campus through a three-day residency program.

“My own accelerated master’s journey transformed my career, providing the perfect balance of education and practicality.”
– Darlene Newman, Duke Master of Financial Technology Advisory Board Member

The accelerated track allows the working professionals to finish their degree in one year, minimizing the time they take away from work. Their work experience allows them to forgo the internship requirement, creating a focused environment on leveling up the student’s knowledge and skills.

Applications for both tracks are open now. International applicants for the accelerated track should apply by November 1st, 2024. Domestic applicants for the accelerated track should apply by January 16th, 2025 or March 17th, 2025. All applicants for the online track should apply by April 1st, 2025.
