Dr. Jimmie Lenz and Professor John Fimbel Speak at Fayetteville State University’s FinTech Conference

Dr. Jimmie Lenz, the Lafitte Director of Master of Engineering in Financial Technology, and Professor John Fimbel, an Executive in Residence in Financial Technology, were speakers at the inaugural FinTech Conference hosted by Fayetteville State University.

Dr. Lenz was the keynote speaker for the first day of the conference, in which he highlighted how finance has evolved into FinTech. Innovation has driven this evolution, in which it is important that people embrace these innovations as the field progresses.

Professor Fimbel co-chaired a workshop, judged a student competition, and served on a career panel. The workshop was titled “Evolving the Business Landscape,” focusing on how innovation, technology, and other factors have led to several FinTech companies, solutions, and products being developed. The student competition consisted of students presenting new, innovative solutions in FinTech. These solutions included a social financial aid blockchain solution, an algorithmic stock recommendation engine, and an in-gaming currency solution. Finally, the career panel spoke on emerging trends, best practices, as well as what jobs are available in FinTech.

Both Dr. Lenz and Professor Fimbel enjoyed their time at Fayetteville State, stating “it was great to be a Bronco for a few days!”
