Alumni Spotlight: Huiyu Song, Duke FinTech ’22
Duke University’s Master in Financial Technology (FinTech) graduates are equipped with the technical, financial, and management expertise needed to lead financial innovation. One of those graduates is Huiyu Song, Duke FinTech class of 2022 and Senior Data Analyst at Capital One.
Duke University’s Master in Financial Technology (FinTech) graduates are equipped with the technical, financial, and management expertise needed to lead financial innovation. One of those graduates is Huiyu Song, Duke FinTech class of 2022.
After graduation, Huiyu secured a role at Capital One as a Senior Data Analyst. Working as part of the Enterprise Platform Technology team, Huiyu contributes to the tracking of enterprise-wise tech initiatives. He analyzes and visualizes the progress of key tech initiatives, which helps leadership monitor the technology transformations across Capital One. If any teams fall behind, Huiyu collaborates with team leaders to understand the challenges and reports these findings to tech leadership. He also tracks how technology initiatives impact cost and productivity. He uses data to showcase the value of initiatives to executives, as well as Capital One’s commitment to technological excellence.
When reflecting on how the program prepared him for his current role, Huiyu mentioned how the program helped him build the business acumen necessary for his role. The program’s business courses taught him how to take complex technical concepts and translate them into simplistic, understandable terms. They also taught them how to present data-driven insights clearly. As effective communication is essential as a data analyst, Huiyu is grateful for the program for teaching him these skills.
