Alumni Spotlight: Christina Xing, Duke FinTech ’23

Duke University’s Master in Financial Technology (FinTech) graduates are equipped with the technical, financial, and management expertise needed to lead financial innovation. One of those graduate is Christina Xing, Duke FinTech class of 2023.

After graduation, Christina secured a role at the Caltech Investment Office as an Investment Analyst. In her role, Christina oversees Caltech’s portfolio’s exposure and risk data, helping manage $4.0 billion AUM. She woks closely with data vendors and conducts regular reviews to ensure the accuracy of information in the portfolio. Christina also evaluates fund managers. She analyzes how the fund managers align with Caltech’s long-term objectives, as well as their performance and strategies. This analysis helps create a holistic portfolio that is diverse in asset classes, geographies, and strategies. Additionally, she helps the team identify opportunities and navigate challenges based on market trends and risk.

When reflecting on how the program prepared her for her current role, Christina mentioned how Duke FinTech combines technical, strategic, and industry-specific knowledge throughout the program. In the Financial Institution Products and Services course, Christina gained a deep understanding of the strategies and structure of various financial institutions. This understanding has been invaluable when evaluating fund managers and think about how to allocate the portfolio. The program also provided Christina with hands-on experience with Python and Excel for data analysis, which is crucial when managing risk and exposure data.

Duke FinTech sharpened my ability to think strategically about the intersection of finance and technology, enabling me to contribute effectively as part of an asset allocation team
