Duke University’s Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) graduates are equipped with the technical, financial, and management expertise needed to lead financial innovation. One of those graduates is Adriana Sierra Todaro, Duke FinTech class of 2022 and Multi-Asset Trader at Virtus Investment Partners.

Alumni Spotlight: Adriana Sierra Todaro, Duke FinTech ‘22

Duke University’s Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) graduates are equipped with the technical, financial, and management expertise needed to lead financial innovation. One of those graduates is Adriana Sierra Todaro, Duke FinTech class of 2022.

After graduation, Adriana secured a role as a Multi-Asset Trader at Virtus Investment Partners. She specializes in trading equities globally, convertible bonds, other fixed income, FX, and futures while managing relationships with over 30 brokers to ensure seamless collaboration and market insights. She contributes to the investment process by closely monitoring events that could impact markets and Virtus Investment Partners’ portfolios, staying proactive to mitigate risk and seize opportunities. Outside of trading, Adriana streamlines and improves daily processes by leveraging Bloomberg, VBA, Python, and other automation tools. Additionally, she works with the systematic and development teams on coding projects to optimize strategies and drive innovation using technology.

This dynamic role allows me to combine my passion for markets with deep interest in technological advancements, fostering both professional and personal growth.

When reflecting on how the program prepared her for her current role, she mentioned how the program greatly prepared her with the skills she needed to succeed as a Multi-Asset Trader. The programming courses provided her with a solid foundation in computing, allowing her to contribute meaningfully to her team and streamline processes for different teams. She has become an asset, as these skills have allowed her to deliver value and innovation. The non-traditional courses, such as blockchain, machine learning, and robo-advising, helped position her at the forefront of industry innovation. This position allows her to adapt and thrive in a rapidly evolving market. Additionally, the program’s focus on soft skills, provided by the leadership and business courses, equipped her with the ability to build and sustain strong relationships with brokers. These courses also allowed her to gain a holistic understanding of the broader business landscape.

The Duke FinTech program was instrumental in preparing me for my current role. This comprehensive preparation has been pivotal in shaping both my technical expertise and strategic vision.
